One of the exciting projects from 2013 that the maconda team accompanied until its successful completion was related to the furniture industry. Erpo, based in Ertingen near Stuttgart, is one of the leading German manufacturers of high-quality upholstered furniture. Its core business revolves around the development, production and marketing of sofas and armchairs made of leather and high-grade fabrics, primarily for the design-conscious, over-40 target group. The products are mainly sold via specialist furniture retailers in the German-speaking area as well as in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

The maconda team supported the Stuttgart-based BWK with a market due diligence. Within a short time we analysed the widely opaque market for upholstered furniture and assessed Erpo’s positioning within its competitive environment. Central themes included market-influencing trends, Erpo’s main competitors, its key customers and their development as well as the evaluation of possible growth paths – a key aspect of our research.

To do this, the maconda team meticulously compared diverse studies and surveys on the leading furniture manufacturers, which were often inconsistent in their approach and results. The data gathered was validated via targeted interviews with selected external market experts from maconda’s extensive network. As a result, we were able to provide our client with a comprehensive overview of the market and insight into Erpo’s specific business.
