The maconda consultants supported Aqua Group, a specialist in water and fire damage restoration, and its majority shareholder Rantum Capital with a comprehensive commercial review. The Cologne-based consultants, highly experienced in damage restoration, evaluated the business model, the regionally structured markets of the subsidiaries and potential synergies. This laid the foundation for a further acquisition in February 2024.
The Aqua Group is a steadily growing company with many years of experience in the restoration of water, fire, and mould damage, expanding both organically and through a buy & build strategy. The group was established in mid-2021 with the acquisition of A.B.T. Anlagen- und Bautrocknungs GmbH from Hesse by Frankfurt-based investor Rantum Capital, together with the highly experienced managing director Hartwig Finger. In the following two years, Scherer (Black Forest) and Strobl (Bavaria) were added to the portfolio. At the beginning of 2024, the acquisition of the successful Neptus Group added further locations in both southern and northern Germany.
The Aqua Group stands out through its cross-regional positioning, increasing economies of scale and growing potential for synergies, as identified by the maconda experts. The consultants, who are highly experienced in the industry, relied on a combination of exploratory interviews and quantitative data in preparing the commercial review. Structured expert interviews with insurance companies, trade associations, research institutes and weather experts enabled maconda to identify key decision-making criteria, market trends and operational opportunities.
The German market for building damage restoration has grown dynamically in recent years. The ageing building stock, particularly in western Germany, is especially prone to damage caused by leaking water pipes. More expensive home furnishings, often including numerous electronic devices, are driving up insurance claims. In addition, increasingly frequent severe weather events such as storms and flooding are leading to a rising number of claims and higher loss amounts.
