2014 brought diverse retail-related mandates including strategy reviews, sophisticated quantitative branch analyses as well as commercial due diligences. These included several projects relating to mail-order business, e-commerce and catalogue business among others. Recently, we received a mandate that linked two of maconda's core sectors – the textile and clothing industry on the one hand and wholesale and retail on the other. Both are among the "original" industries that we have regularly served since the early '90s.
Founded in 1999, the 7days Group is a fully-integrated B2B mail-order company for workwear offering fashionable designs for medical and nursing personnel. The Group consists of the German parent company, sales subsidiaries in Austria, France and Belgium as well as a production company in Morocco. The product range includes overalls, pants, polo shirts and lab coats in different colors and fits. Along with additional clothing items, accessories such as shoes round off the product range.
With the commercial due diligence on 7days, maconda once again provided assistance to the Berlin-based company Odewald KMU. Our work included analyzing the trends and drivers of the general workwear market as well as the customer segments served while comparing various sales channels such as rental service, direct sales by manufacturers as well as wholesale, retail and mail-order channels. An important focus was placed on the crucial topic for mail-order companies: customer base. We examined their structure and development in detail, established various KPIs (such as average receipt value, return ratios, etc.) and analyzed the ordering behavior of the different customer groups. Our extensive experience in the textile and clothing market was particularly helpful in the assessment of 7days' supply chain. Here, among other things, we compared the advantages and disadvantages of various sourcing and production sites.
