maconda supports Liberta Partners in the acquisition of a majority stake in AMEC
maconda-News March 2024
Munich-based investor Liberta Partners has acquired a majority stake in AMEC, a "value-added" reseller of electronic components tailored precisely to customer requirements. maconda, the consulting firm specialised in niche markets in numerous industries, supported Liberta with a focused, primarily interview-based commercial review, analysing AMEC's market prospects, customer, and supplier relationships.
AMEC is specialised in the development and procurement of microelectronic components for German SMEs. Its customers include numerous manufacturers of branded products (e.g. coffee machines and security technology), suppliers of the plant engineering sector, and contract manufacturers of printed circuit boards and electronic devices. Over the 20 years since its founding, the company has built an extensive supplier network and deep “design-in” expertise. This allows AMEC not only to assess the feasibility of customers’ specifications with precision, but also to develop improvement suggestions and propose customised solutions.
maconda conducted a detailed analysis of customer purchasing criteria, supplier satisfaction, the distribution structure, and the resulting competitive positioning. To support this, maconda carried out an interview programme with both customers and suppliers, with interviews involving suppliers based in China or Taiwan conducted in Chinese.
The distribution of electronic components is a market with many players that pursue different distribution models. It was therefore essential to gain a clear understanding of AMEC’s unique selling points and competitive advantages. These lie primarily in its consulting expertise, which goes far beyond standard “design-in” support, as well as its exceptionally high delivery reliability and dependability, enabled by its excellent relationships with suppliers.
As always, the maconda consultants, experienced in niche markets, used a very broad range of sources, which were compared, weighted, and jointly analysed. Once again, the advantages of maconda’s highly analytical and creative approach became clear, as “large-scale” studies typically fail to provide reliable insights into specific markets – even if they claim to do so. The research focused on relevant trade magazines and blogs, information from associations such as FBDi, annual reports, and a wide array of other data on customers, competitors, and suppliers. Numerous interviews were also conducted with customers, other market participants and industry experts, both for validation and, above all, to gather up-to-date market knowledge.
About AMEC
Founded in 2004, AMEC is a leading “value-added” reseller of electronic components, headquartered in Wedemark near Hanover. The company serves as a development and procurement partner for microelectronic components, particularly for OEMs and EMS companies. Its components combine high quality with cost efficiency. Technically trained sales engineers support more than 300 customers, not only at the purchasing level but also in product development. Using “design-in” solutions, AMEC develops customised variants, assesses feasibility, and contributes its own suggestions regarding form and function.
