maconda was recently mandated as advisor in several transactions in the both dynamic and complex healthcare market. One commercial due diligence in the first quarter of 2014 related to a specialist company in the highly specialized intensive care sector, while another was conducted in the same period in the market for diabetes products. In the previous quarter of the year, the focus was primarily on a leading chain of nursing homes. The maconda team was entrusted with these challenging assignments due to its many years of experience in the healthcare market, in health insurance and because of its excellent network in these sectors.
The Linimed-Fazmed Group is the leading provider of home-based intensive care in eastern Germany. The group focuses on patients who require round-the-clock monitoring, largely in the form of continuous ventilation. In regular audits conducted by the independent Medical Service of the Health Insurance Funds, Linimed and Fazmed always perform well. The two companies, which originate from Thuringia, have now been acquired by Vitruvian Partners LLP. The group of companies is part of the fast-growing care sector in Germany. Demographic trends indicate high growth in the future as well.
In the commercial due diligence for London and Munich-based Vitruvian Partners, the success-determining drivers and trends of the market for outpatient intensive care were identified and evaluated. As part of the strategic and operational business analysis, the individual locations of the group were considered and compared with competitors. A large number of expert discussions were held in order to be able to accurately assess the positioning of the two target companies.
Commercial due diligence on a specialist retailer for diabetic supplies
As part of another project in the healthcare sector, maconda carried out a commercial due diligence on a specialist retailer of products for diabetics. For this purpose, maconda intensively examined the market, the company’s target group and new diabetic products. In order to gain a better understanding of the less transparent market and, above all, its prospects, maconda’s group of experts modeled, among other things, a forecast of the development of the number of diabetics in Germany. Extensive interviews were conducted with experts to analyze the regulatory situation and its impact on the target company.
Commercial due diligence for a large chain of nursing homes
In the last quarter of the previous year, maconda completed a very comprehensive commercial due diligence on a leading operator of inpatient care facilities. Among other things, the very complex market for outpatient vs. inpatient care was addressed, the highly regulated environment as well as the forms of financing were analyzed, and the critical issue of staff recruitment and qualification was considered in detail. In addition, as part of the due diligence process, each of the many locations was examined in detail, including occupancy, financial performance, local competition and positioning.
