Comprehensive experience in apparel retail, the textile industry, and a long-standing reputation for delivering Commercial Due Diligences were the key ingredients for a renewed engagement from the long-established corporate investor NORD Holding to the maconda team. The focus was the acquisition of Fritz Hiltl Hosenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG from Sulzbach-Rosenberg near Nuremberg.
Hiltl specialises in the development and manufacture of high-quality men’s trousers, which are sold primarily through brick-and-mortar retail via apparel chains and specialised menswear retailers, as well as selected online retailers. Hiltl stands out from its direct competitors in particular through the use of high-quality fabrics from Italy and Germany and outstanding workmanship. The excellent product quality, combined with an increasingly fashion-forward range, enables Hiltl to sell its trousers internationally to a growing extent.
Key aspects of the Commercial Due Diligence included a detailed analysis of the specific niche market for high-quality men’s trousers in the upper mid-price segment, an assessment of medium- and long-term trends—e.g., men’s growing affinity for fashion and an increasing willingness to spend on men’s trousers across all age groups—as well as Hiltl’s positioning within the competitive landscape. In addition, in several workshops with management and NORD Holding, the maconda team consolidated Hiltl’s planning assumptions and insights from numerous customer interviews into a detailed business plan.
