maconda supports Liberta Partners in acquiring a majority stake in AMEC

maconda News March 2024

Munich-based investor Liberta Partners has acquired a majority stake in AMEC, a “value-added reseller” of electronic components precisely tailored to customers’ requirements. maconda, the consulting boutique specialising in niche markets across numerous industries, supported Liberta with a focused Commercial Review based primarily on interviews, analysing AMEC’s market prospects as well as its customer and supplier relationships.

AMEC specialises in the development and sourcing of microelectronic components for the German Mittelstand. Its customers include numerous manufacturers of branded products (e.g., coffee machines or security technology), suppliers in plant engineering, and contract manufacturers of printed circuit boards and electronic devices. Over the 20 years since its founding, the company has built an extensive supplier network and deep “design-in” expertise. This enables AMEC not only to assess customers’ requirements precisely for feasibility, but also to develop improvement proposals and recommend tailored solutions.

maconda analysed in detail customers’ purchasing criteria, supplier satisfaction, the sales structure, and the competitive positioning built on these factors. For this purpose, maconda conducted an interview programme with customers and suppliers, with interviews with suppliers based in China or Taiwan conducted in Chinese.

The distribution of electronic components is a market with many participants pursuing different sales models. Therefore, it was essential to understand AMEC’s unique selling points and competitive advantages in depth. These lie primarily in its advisory expertise that goes far beyond “design-in”, as well as in its exceptionally high delivery reliability and dependability—driven by excellent relationships with its suppliers.

As always, maconda consultants experienced in niche markets used a very broad range of sources, which were compared, weighted and evaluated in combination. This once again demonstrated the advantage of maconda’s highly analytical, creative approach, as “large” studies cannot reliably reflect specific markets in practice (even if they claim to do so). The review therefore focused primarily on relevant trade magazines and blogs, information from associations such as FBDi, as well as annual reports and a wide range of other information on customers, competitors and suppliers. For validation—and above all to obtain up-to-date insights—numerous interviews were conducted with customers, other market participants and additional experts.

About AMEC

Founded in 2004, AMEC is a leading value-added reseller of electronic components headquartered in Wedemark near Hanover. The company acts as a development and procurement partner for microelectronic components, particularly for OEMs and EMS companies. The components offer high quality at lower cost. Technically trained sales engineers support more than 300 customers—not only at the purchasing level, but also in development. Through “design-in” solutions, AMEC develops customised variants for customers, checks feasibility, and contributes its own proposals on form and function.

maconda continues to expand its expertise in electronics distribution and end-user segments

In recent years, the maconda team has significantly expanded its expertise in electronics distribution, including in terms of personnel, and has successfully delivered various projects. In addition to resellers of electronic parts and machine components, the engagements covered a broad range of distributor customer industries—often niches, but also “large” markets.
