maconda supports Aqua Group, a specialist in water and fire damage restoration, with a Commercial Review

maconda News February 2024

maconda’s consultants supported Aqua Group, a specialist in water and fire damage restoration, and its majority shareholder Rantum Capital with a comprehensive Commercial Review. The Cologne-based consultants, who are highly experienced in damage restoration, evaluated the business model, the regionally influenced market of the group members, and potential synergies, laying the foundation for a further acquisition in February 2024.

Aqua Group is a corporate group that is growing steadily both organically and through Buy & Build, consisting of long-standing experts in water, fire, and mold damage restoration. It was established in mid-2021 with the acquisition of A.B.T. Anlagen- und Bautrocknungs GmbH from Hesse by the Frankfurt-based investor Rantum Capital, together with the highly experienced managing director Hartwig Finger. In the following two years, Scherer (Black Forest) and Strobl (Bavaria), among others, were added. The acquisition of the successful Neptus Group in early 2024 added further locations in southern and northern Germany.

Aqua Group differentiates itself through its supra-regional positioning, increasing economies of scale, and the growing potential for synergies, as highlighted by the maconda experts. In preparing the Commercial Review, the consultants, who are highly experienced in the industry, relied on a combination of exploratory interviews and quantitative data. Structured expert interviews with insurance companies, trade associations, research institutes, and weather experts helped maconda identify key decision criteria, trends, and operational opportunities.

The German market for building damage restoration has grown dynamically in recent years. The aging building stock, especially in Western Germany, is particularly vulnerable to damage from leaking water pipes. Often more expensive home furnishings, including many electronic devices, are driving up insurance claims. In addition, more frequent severe weather events such as storms and floods are leading to an increasing number of claims and higher claim values.
