Retrospective of 2021 and outlook
2022 is already well underway; nevertheless, we'll take you on a brief review.
Despite the pandemic-related turbulence in 2021, numerous private equity houses, family offices and medium-sized family businesses have made important investment decisions with the support of maconda (and sometimes bought or sold - at other times not). The family-run Swiss investment boutique Syz Capital, together with Saturnus Capital, acquires a majority stake in SK Pharma, a leading German specialist in contract logistics for the healthcare industry. Prior to this, an experienced team of advisors from strategy expert maconda evaluated SK Pharma's market positioning, strategy and future prospects in a comprehensive commercial due diligence.

maconda supports Benner investment company in its investment in Thonet, the traditional and well-known manufacturer of premium chairs
The Cologne-based consulting boutique maconda prepared a commercial review for the Benner family office for the acquisition of a majority stake in Thonet, the traditional German manufacturer of high-quality design classics. The consultants, who are experienced in the furniture and consumer goods industry and with premium products, evaluated the positioning of Thonet in the residential and so-called object segment for the entrepreneurial family from Wiesbaden.

The Cologne-based consulting boutique maconda prepared the majority stake in BlueBrixx and Model Car World, the leading German omnichannel provider of adult nub toys and model vehicles, for the Belgian investor Vendis Capital with a strategy due diligence. In the process, maconda's consultants, who are particularly experienced in niche markets, primarily evaluated BlueBrixx's success factors and growth potential in a newly established segment of the toy market.

Europe's leading technology trade fair for the commerce sector
Commerce is about change - digitalization and technologization, informed and demanding consumers, new business models pose new challenges for the world of commerce. In the multi-layered and dynamic retail industry, which maconda focuses on, future-oriented, interlocked trade concepts are required, which are increasingly characterized by technological development.
In February, maconda visited the leading trade fair for commerce technology in Europe, EuroCIS. The focus of this year's EuroCIS was on solutions that support retailers in implementing their omnichannel strategies, i.e. dialogue with customers across all channels. These include mobile solutions, for example for interacting with customers' smartphones or implementing mobile payment, but also topics such as business analytics, cloud technologies, RFID and self-checkout. These technologies are becoming increasingly important for trade organizations.

Extensive experience in the retail clothing trade, in the textile industry as well as a long-standing reputation in the preparation of commercial due diligences were the necessary ingredients for a renewed mandate of the long-established corporate investor NORD Holding to the maconda team. The focus was on the acquisition of Fritz Hiltl Hosenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG from Sulzbach-Rosenberg near Nuremberg.

High-quality and customized, innovative and convenient - muesli can be so diverse! The maconda team has already been active in the growing eCommerce and FMCG sectors on several occasions. This includes projects on value enhancement and strategy development, synergy checks as well as commercial due diligences. Most recently, maconda was able to recommend itself as a competent partner for a market due diligence in the run-up to the planned investment in mymuesli.

maconda accompanies medium-sized investment company BPE in a forward-looking investment involving a manufacturer of control and automation technology
The Hamburg-based investor BPE Unternehmensbeteiligungen has again mandated maconda for a commercial due diligence - this time in the run-up to the acquisition of epis Automation GmbH & Co. KG from the Swabian town of Albstadt. Here, BPE was able to draw not only from the many years of experience of the Mechanical Engineering & Technology Competence Team and the experience in relevant end markets such as the textile industry, but also from the deeper understanding of future technologies such as "Internet of Things" and "Industry 4.0".

Extensive experience in retail, food production and - related to that - pet food as well as a long-standing reputation in the preparation of commercial due diligences in niche markets were the necessary ingredients of a renewed mandate of the long-established Hamburg-based investor BPE Unternehmensbeteiligungen to the maconda team. The focus was on the acquisition of Seitz GmbH from Langwedel near Bremen by BPE and two managers with industry experience.
