WAGNER Group, the market leader for industrial liquid and powder coating equipment, acquires Reinhardt-Technik, a specialist in machinery for bonding, sealing, and potting technology – following Commercial Due Diligence by maconda
maconda News February 2012
The Cologne-based maconda consulting team’s extensive experience with technological products, mechanical and plant engineering, and automation technology, as well as an excellent reputation for conducting Commercial Due Diligence, formed the basis of an engagement for the WAGNER Group, which is active in 50 countries and based in Markdorf on Lake Constance. It concerned a specialized mechanical engineering company from North Rhine-Westphalia, which has now been acquired by WAGNER.
With 1,300 employees worldwide and subsidiaries and representatives in over 50 countries, the WAGNER Group is the market leader in the manufacture of high-quality technological equipment for industrial liquid or powder coating. Reinhardt-Technik GmbH, based in Kierspe near Gummersbach, has now been acquired. Reinhardt’s core competence is the processing of liquid plastics for applications in the fields of bonding & sealing, potting technology, and surface treatment. System integration and process control are integral parts of their services. “With the acquisition of Reinhardt, we intend to complement the WAGNER portfolio and further expand our ‘Adhesives & Sealants’ business unit internationally,” said Hubert Riek, managing director of WAGNER and Chairman of the Management Board of the Wagner Industrial Solutions division.
This was preceded by a careful analysis of Reinhardt-Technik by the due diligence specialists at maconda. The market potential in the customer markets specifically served by Reinhardt—the glass industry (windows), renewable energies, wind energy, and electrical engineering, as well as automotive and bus/truck/rail (BTR)—was assessed, as was the fundamental future viability of the technology offered and potential substitutes.
Another focus was the analysis of Reinhardt’s product range and the review and discussion of the company’s strategy in the end markets served. To this end, the maconda consultants delved deep into the technology of bonding, sealing, and potting. “The results of the analysis of the market potential and development opportunities for Reinhardt-Technik conducted by the maconda team contributed significantly to the purchase decision. Their in-depth knowledge of the market and their critical and very meticulous approach really impressed us,” commented WAGNER managing director Riek.
The joining of materials – metal, glass, plastic, and composite materials – is ubiquitous, and many products are manufactured in this way. In recent years, bonding has increasingly replaced traditional joining techniques, and Reinhardt-Technik capitalized on this trend early on.
